Rachel Barrett

Rachel Barrett (b. 1981, Cambridge, MA) is a visual storyteller. She uses the medium of photography to explore and collect the world around her, fulfilling her desires to memorialize pieces from the present and preserve the past. Her personal work is deeply rooted in nostalgia and memory with a primary interest in social and cultural identity, examining how individuals shape and define their sense of self within the context and coherence of others. A 2011 recipient of the Tracey Baran Award and PDNs 30 and a 2010 Tierney Fellow, she has had her work exhibited nationally and internationally with recent exhibitions at the 14th International Photography Festival in Lishui China and Milk Gallery in New York. She is an adjunct lecturer at Kingsborough Community College and a freelance contributor for the New York Times. She lives in Brooklyn, NY.
