Sathya Balakumar

Sathya Balakumar (b.1979), was born in Queens, New York.  A microcosm of the world, Sathya was influenced by the fusion of cultures, customs, and languages from her earliest moments. A graduate of Boston University, Sathya started her career in Communications working for ABC Networks and later for American Express. In 2006, she made the transition from marketing to fashion when she attended Parsons, the New School for Design and began developing her ready to wear line, Lakum. Launched in 2013, the line exhibits a timeless elegance and free form construction rooted in her Asian heritage. Simple silhouettes meet fine textiles, splashes of color, and artfully curated accessories.

More recently, following a partnership with Sales and Merchandising expert Heather Green, the two are taking an innovative approach to bridal. Together, their vision caters to the modern bride seeking to express her true self on her wedding day. When a woman says, ‘I have nothing to wear,’ what she really means is, ‘there is nothing here for who I am supposed to be today.’*The Lakum Bridal collection epitomizes authenticity, offering an intimate portrait into the bride on her wedding day. Their dynamic, textural pieces will give brides the opportunity to make distinct stylistic choices while reflecting exactly who they are: classic yet modern, traditional yet contemporary. Strong, sophisticated, inspired.
